Surya
Henna Cream is a semi-permanent hair
colouring containing hair dyes plus
herbs and fruits from Brazil and India,
which offer simultaneous colouration
and deep conditioning treatment for the
hair. It is these dyes that give
consistency of colour for the user. For
this reason, Surya Henna Cream is a
viable option to use over conventional
permanent hair colour or brands
claiming to be natural with one single
exception. Because Surya Henna Cream
does not contain ammonia or a bleaching
agent, hair colour can not be lightened
(i.e. brunette to
blond).

Conventional methods of colouring hair use chemicals considered at the least harsh and the worst toxic. The basic chemistry behind hair colour has not changed much since 1907 when French chemist Eugene Schueller discovered these chemicals’ ability to breach the cuticle and deposit dyes into the cortex.
Surya Henna Cream is an innovative approach to colouring, in harmony with contemporary needs. By using our approach to hair colouring, the cuticle and therefore the luster and health of the hair is preserved. Our unique process allows the use of mild agents to create an alkaline environment that gently swells the keratin scales. This allows the smaller pigment molecules to lodge themselves among the superficial layers of the cuticle and the larger molecules to rest on the strand creating a strengthening affect of the hair’s natural armor. When the colour is deposited on the cuticle in this way, it gradually washes out leaving a natural hairline as opposed to an obvious root stripe. Surya Henna Cream lasts for 7-10 washings.
In addition to this gentle approach to colouring, we also add 15 herbs and fruits from around the world to enhance Surya Henna Cream’s moisturizing and conditioning effects. In keeping with the unique harmony that nature provides, each botanical is chosen for its contribution to the formula’s balance. We carefully source our raw materials, using sustainable methods and wherever possible ethically wild crafted or organic ingredients.
While our high quality henna is an important ingredient in Surya Henna Cream, it is added as one of the conditioning agents in the product, not to achieve the shades available. Due to shortcomings in the technology currently available and in order to achieve the desired results it is necessary to use a small percentage of synthetic dyes, approximately 1-3% of the total formula. With that in mind, Surya Brasil has painstakingly researched dyes with the mildest properties and the best safety data available to use in the henna cream formulas, including monitoring new information from the European Union whose standards are considered internationally to be stringent. We only use carbon-based dyes so there are never any heavy metals even in trace amounts. Using better dyes is not the only precaution we take for your health’s sake; our formula is designed to use the most responsible ingredients. Surya products do not contain any para-phenylenediamine (PPD) based dyes, resorcinol, peroxide or ammonia.
Because Surya Henna Cream colouring treatment does not strip the melanin from the cortex, the current hair colour will play a role when choosing your shade. The colour recommendations on the package are based on results achieved on white or light hair. Adjust your choice according to the chart provided. Surya Henna Cream is available in 15 beautiful shades but unique colours can also be achieved by blending different shades of the cream together. One outstanding feature of Henna Cream is that there is no interval necessary between applications. If you don’t feel the colour you have chosen is right for you, you may immediately apply another colour treatment. Because Surya does not use any bleaching agents such as peroxide, it is not possible to use Henna Cream to lighten the hair.

Henna Cream Ingredient List
Deionized Water: Transmitter vehicle
Dipropylene Glycol Methyl Ether: This mild synthetic solvent is a large molecule which precludes it from penetrating deeply into the skin. This is in contrast to propylene glycol which penetrates the skin and allows undesirable ingredients such as dyes, preservatives and synthetic agents in formulation to enter more easily into the stratum corneum of the skin.
Cetearyl Alcohol: Derivative of coconut. It is a very safe natural wax used as a viscose controlling agent
Cetrimonium Chloride: Derivative of coconut. It is used for its conditioning properties
Babaçu (Orbignya oleifera) Seed Oil: High in fatty acids, Amazonian fruit that has a oleic profile similar to coconut used for its emollient properties.
Vegetable Glycerin: Humectant. Derived from vegetable sources, glycerin is a by-product of soap making.
Botanical Extracts:
Henna (Lawsonia inermis)* - Historically used for its scalp and skin conditioning properties. Henna forms a protective layer on each hair strand enhancing shine and condition of the cuticle
Arnica (Arnica montana)* - Plant which is a capillary stimulant and acts as a vasoprotector
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)* - Plant that acts as an analgesic and a bactericide
Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita)* - Plant that acts as a dermal protector, decongestant and is a natural tranquilizer
Amla (Phylanthus embilica)* - Indian fruit rich in vitamin C
Mallow (Malva sykvestris)* - Plant that acts as an emollient is a natural tranquilizer and protector
Hazelnut (Corylus rostrata)* Source of fatty acids, moisturizes and enriches formula
Guaraná (Paulinia cupana)* - Brazilian fruit that acts as a capillary stimulant enhancing circulation of the scalp
Açaì (Euterpe oleracea)* - Brazilian fruit that moisturizes, acts as an emollient and as a remineralizer
Carrot (Daucus carota sativa)* - softens and protects skin
Juá (Zizyphus joaseiro)* Indigenous to north eastern Brazil this plant has natural saponins which act as a lathering agent. Brazilian Jua fruit lends tensoactive, anti-inflammatory and peripheral circulation stimulant properties to the formula
Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis)* - Plant that is renown for its moisturizing properties, softens and acts as an emollient
Acerola (Malpighia punicifolia)* - Brazilian fruit rich in vitamin C
Brazil Nut (Bertholletia exclesa)* Moisturizes, revitalizes, conditions and acts as an emollient.
Hydroxyethylcellulose: Natural gum of plant origin
Dehydroacetic Acid and Benzyl Alcohol: Preservatives that are gentle alternatives to formaldehyde donors and halogen based preservatives (common halogens are chlorine, bromine, and fluoride), which are suspected of causing cancer and are potent allergic agents
Aminomethyl Propanol: Synthetic, soft alkalizer used to adjust Ph as needed
Hair colour dyes: Though our dyes are synthetic, they are carbon based and not heavy metal based. We have chosen the mildest of hair dyes and continue to monitor safety tests on these ingredients. Many hair colour dyes have not been tested for human safety. We avoid those dyes that have been tested and found questionable to humans.

Questions and
Answers
Q. What is
the difference between Surya Henna Cream and
other hair colouring
products?
A. Surya
Henna Cream is a semi permanent hair colour. Our
unique technology allows Surya to use a gentler
means to colour the hair and cover gray than
traditional hair colouring applications. Surya
Henna Cream does not contain peroxide, ammonia,
resorcinol, PPD or heavy metals. We use both
plant dyes and gentle hair dyes to colour the
hair. We also include 15 high quality herbs and
fruits to add conditioners to the hair, giving
your hair a treatment while
colouring.
Q What is
the difference between Surya Henna Powder and
Surya Henna Cream?
A. Surya
Henna Powder is 100% plant material, composed
only of dried and ground plants and fruits. The
pigment of the colouring comes only from the
tannins and naturally occurring pigments. Surya
Henna Cream offers a fuller range of colours by
using gentle hair dyes as the pigment in the
product. In addition, Surya Henna Cream adds the
unique blend of 15 exotic herbs and fruits to
provide a healthy treatment for the
hair.
Q. Can I
lighten my hair with Surya Henna
Cream?
A. Surya
Henna Cream does not lighten the hair because it
does not contain ammonia or peroxide.
Q. How
long does Surya Henna Cream
last?
A. Surya
Henna Cream washes out in 7 to 10 shampoos. The
life and vibrancy of the colour can be enhanced
by using Surya Brasil's Colour Fixation hair
care products.
Q. I
recently got a permanent and dyed my hair with a
conventional product. My roots are showing
already! Since I can't go back to the
hairdresser for a couple of weeks, I was
wondering if I could apply your Henna Cream
product now.
A. Yes, you can
cover those roots with Surya Henna Cream now.
The product conditions your hair so it helps
correct the damage done by harsh methods of
colouring. When you apply your Surya Henna
Cream, start with those pesky roots so that the
colour will remain on that section of the hair
for the longest amount of time. Another benefit
of Surya Henna Cream is that it gradually washes
out - exposed 'root line' is never a
problem.
Q. What is
the suggested interval between applications of
Surya Henna Cream?
A. Since Surya
Henna Cream does not harm the hair, applications
may be made as frequently as a person wants.
There is no specific time interval needed
between usages. After application of the
product, you may immediately apply another
colour if you do not achieve the results you
desire. If for some reason you wanted to apply
the colour every day it would be safe to do.
Every time you colour with Surya Henna Cream you
are treating your hair to a conditioning
treatment as well.
Q. Can I
mix Surya Henna Powder with Surya Henna
Cream?
A. No, it
is not advised. However you may mix henna cream
colours with other henna cream colours to blend
your own unique shade.
Q. Can men
use Surya Henna Cream?
A. Yes,
anyone can use Surya Henna Cream. It works well
on gray hair, especially when the gray is more
than 40% of the hair. Our convenient resealable
packaging is great for shorter hair as you may
store the remainder until you are ready for the
next application.
Q. Is it
safe to use Surya Henna Cream while I am
pregnant?
A.Yes,
our henna cream can be used safely during
pregnancy because it does not contain heavy
metals or any aggressive chemicals. However,
because women have more possibility for
sensitivities during pregnancy it is advisable
to perform a skin sensitivity test 24 hours
prior to using Surya Henna Cream on the
hair.
Q. I have
a lot of allergies; can I use Surya Henna
Cream?
A. Sensitivities are individual in nature. We
suggest testing a small area of the skin 24
hours before use of the product, especially if
the client has a history of allergy
concerns.
Q. How do
semi-permanent colours work? Why are they better
than permanent?
A. Surya
Henna Cream, a semi-permanent hair colouring,
uses gentle dyes with low molecular weight that
act bydepositing the colour on the
strands and penetrating only the superficial
layer of the hair. The product lasts for 7-10
shampoos. Permanent methods of colouring use
harsh chemicals (ammonia) to penetrate the
cuticle, allowing colours and other chemical
agents (peroxide) to enter the cortex of the
hair. This violent process leaves the hair
damaged and vulnerable to environmental
stress.
Q. I have
dark brown hair but about 50% has turned white.
How should I darken these white
hairs?
A. We
suggest using Surya Henna Cream in dark brown or
chocolate brown for 60 minutes. When you have
more than 40% white hair, you will achieve the
best results with Henna Cream rather than Henna
powder.
